The Light Within

There are surprisingly few songs and hymns written from the Christian mystical tradition.
'The Light Within' speaks of God's creative love being expressed through his participation in the whole of creation.
Joseph Ratzinger one said that when we recognise patterns in the Cosmos we are re-cognising (rethinking) things that have been thought before - the patterns and rhythms in the 'Book of Nature' are echoes of the mind of God.
Psalm 139 was an inspiration.
I sometimes climb to this high point to watch the setting sun
Descending in its western reach to mark the long day’s run
Tonight I mean to stay awake, and such a watch I’ll keep
The dawn will rise up on my back as in the west they sleep
To be alive, a witness to the wonder of it all
Is miracle enough for us to answer to your call
So lead us on this sacred path and take us deeper in
To be alive within the light and find the light that dwells within
And when I see the morning star announce the rising sun
I’ll sense within the turning sky the way your will is done
For though the patterns of this world are hidden from our sight
They answer to a call unheard, a voice within the night
(Chorus)
The blood that courses in our veins, the tides of oceans deep
The motion of the stars above, the cycles of our sleep
Are echoes of that distant pulse in the eternal mind
Circadian rhythms marking time, as light and dark entwine
(Chorus)
So let me fly from this high point, and on the wings of dawn
Find solace at the ocean’s end, where limits are redrawn
Where secrets will be opened up, and nothing left concealed
And there your hand will lead me to the kingdom now revealed
(Chorus)
